I’ve identified a toll free number (1-800-7×4-8×37) that I want to buy. The number is not currently in use, so I’m trying to figure out who owns it or how to buy it. I’m not interested in renting or leasing, but I can’t find anyone who offers those options for this phone number either.

If I call the phone number I get a message that says “sorry, the number you dialed is invalid, please check the area code dialed or call directory assistance in the city you wish to reach.”

If I look up the phone number using “reverse phone lookup” services like Reverse Phone Detective (http://www.reversephonedetective.com/) or AnyWho (http://www.anywho.com), I get nothing. I even paid Intelius (http://www.intelius.com/) $14.95 to investigate the phone number, and they refunded my money because they couldn’t come up with anything.

There are a lot of cell phone lookup services out there. But this is not a cell phone number - it’s a toll free (800) number. Are there any services that can help?
I’m being told that I can’t “own” a toll free number - I can only pay a monthly fee to use it. So, if that’s the only option, that’s fine. But it seems no service providers are able to rent me the specific number I want (800-7×4-8×37). I’ve tried over a dozen toll free number providers, and none of them have this number. The number is not active and it’s not listed. How to I get access to it?
